In anticipation of the International High-Level Conference held in Nukus under the auspices of the United Nations “Aral Sea Area - Zone of Environmental Innovations and Technologies”, October 17-22 The First International Ecological Marathon was held in six cities of Uzbekistan under the motto “We are responsible for the future!”
Ecological marathon is organized to give a new impetus to the process of participation of wide circles of the public in solving large-scale problems of transformation of the Aral Sea region
Its goal was to attract the attention of the world community to the initiatives of the President of Uzbekistan on declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovation and technology, supporting the activities of the Multi-partner Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region under the auspices of the UN, Uzbekistan's measures to address the socio-economic and environmental problems of the Aral Sea region under conditions of change climate in the region of Central Asia.
During the Eco-marathon, six stages were held in major tourist centers of Uzbekistan and the Aral Sea cities - Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Urgench, Nukus and Muynak with the participation of famous athletes, youth and members of the public.
At each stage in the field, meetings, concerts and other outreach events were held with the participation of famous cultural figures, representatives of international organizations and the local population.

The participation in the Eco-marathon of famous athletes, pop stars and cultural figures gave a new impetus to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among residents of the country and young people, especially those living in the Aral Sea region.
The active use of modern innovative methods of propaganda and informational impact has made it possible to widely disseminate information about the high ethno-cultural, historical-archaeological, tourist, industrial and scientific potential of Uzbekistan and the Aral Sea region.
Partners in the organization of the Eco-marathon were the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports, the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, the Athletics Federation of Uzbekistan, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the khokimiyats of the Samarkand, Bukhara, Khorezm regions and the city of Tashkent, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education , State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Tourism Development, Youth Union of Uzbekistan, UNDP Office in Uzbekistan, IFAS Agency, Many Human Security Partner Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region, UNESCO, International Association of Athletics Federations, Uzbekistan Aeronautics Federation, National Television and Radio Company, National News Agency, other international and national organizations and partners, NGOs and the media.
At each of the six stages of the Eco-marathon, start and finish ceremonies were held; Award Ceremony a festive concert with the participation of athletes and pop stars, representatives of national, foreign and international organizations, the media; photo and video shooting, etc.
During the Eco-marathon, a goblet with a symbolic drop of water for the Aral Sea region was transferred from stage to stage as a relay, which was transferred from Tashkent and reached Muynak.
The winners and active participants of the Eco-marathon were awarded with diplomas and prizes of the Eco-marathon Organizing Committee, as well as special commemorative prizes of the Climate Network of Central Asian NGOs.
To disseminate information on the progress and results of the environmental marathon, the potential of the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan, the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan and other partners from state and public organizations were actively used.
Each stage of the environmental marathon was widely covered in national media: on central and local television channels, radio and print media, in social networks.
The participants of the Eco-marathon were invited to hold such an event every year.
