On 6th July, 2010 in the rural citizens' gathering "Joncheka" of Uzun area of Surkhandarya region, near the border post "Chumchukli jar", around the border with Tajikistan held a rally and picket. They were organized by local residents who a day before participated in the rally within the park of makhalla "Telpakchinor" devoted to the impact of SUE TALKO on the environment and health of the northern areas. Residents of the rural citizens' gathering "Joncheka" of Uzun area are first affected by the negative impact of emissions of hydrogen fluoride from the pipes of TALKO as they live closer than anyone from the plant.
It all started with a spontaneous gathering of residents of neighboring makhallas at the building of Agricultural College, where the talks have been given by a resident of a nearby makhalla Uktam Yuldashev, chairman of citizens' gathering "Joncheka" - Khurram Eshboev, a retired Ahmad Muhammad, a young researcher Muattar Hudaykulova and others. The assembled without hesitation supported the suggestion of speakers to arrange a picket at the border crossing "Chumchukli jar" on the border of two states.
More than 300 people gathered at the college moved to the border post, unfolding posters and banners with the slogans "Damage to nature - harm to future generation!" "Do not put your interests above the people's health!" "We do not let poison our children!” The purpose of their action was to attempt once again to draw the attention of the authorities of the neighboring state and international organizations to the impacts of industrial pollution the atmosphere of the region by Tajik aluminum plant.
On December, 27th the Conference of the Ecological movement of Uzbekistan on election of 15 deputies of Legislative chamber of the parliament of the country has taken place in Tashkent. The delegates selected at conferences of territorial branches of the Ecomevement in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and the city of Tashkent participated in it.
Nomination of candidates of the Legislative chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan from the Ecological movement of Uzbekistan and their election is conducted by the supreme body — the Conference of the Ecomevement. At the Conference on nomination of candidates of the Legislative chamber from The Ecomevement and their election fifteen deputies were elected: by one from each administrative-territorial unit of the Republic of Uzbekistan (the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and the city of Tashkent) plus one deputy — from Executive committee of Central Kengash of the Ecomevement. They were selected on an alternative basis from among the delegates selected at conferences of territorial branches of the Ecomevement, spent in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, in all regions and the city of Tashkent.
For maintenance of qualitative selection of the future deputies selection of persons for nomination as candidates was carried out from among delegates of the Conference of the Ecomevement actively participating in its activity and capable to work effectively in the parliament on the further perfection and development of legislation in sphere of nature protection and healthcare of the population. Alternativeness of nominees was thus provided. From three to five persons have been nominated from each administrative-territorial unit of the Republic of Uzbekistan and three candidates - from the Executive committee of Central Kengash of the Ecomevement, in total 53 candidates have been nominated.
On 2 April 2012, the Republic of Uzbekistan was visited by Jose Raymond Thomas, Executive Director, Singapore Environment Council, who was invited by Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan. Within the framework of his visit on 3 April, a Memorandum of Understanding between Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan and Singapore Environment Council was signed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan is paying much attention to strengthening international collaboration in the area of environment protection and addressing regional and transboundary ecological problems of the region. In the recent years, Ecological Movement organized series of activities aimed at eliminating ecological instability caused by unsustainable use of natural resources in Central Asia. These activities include international conference on “Transboundary ecological problems of Center Asia: Application of international legislative mechanisms for their solution” held at the initiative of Ecological Movement in 2010 in Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan, in which members of Singapore delegation actively participated. Then, the foundation of collaboration between the Ecological Movement and Singapore Environment Council was laid. Representatives of the Council also participated in international round table meeting on “Actual issues of ecological safety and health protection: Role of civil society institutions in addressing them” held in December of 2011 in Tashkent.
