Public of the country is widely discussing the results of conducted joint meeting of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Tashkent. In the report of the President Islam Karimov, a deep analysis of the activities of Parliament is presented and the most important challenges facing the Parliament on radically improving the work in accordance with modern requirements, improving the quality of legislative activity are identified.

- At the joint session of chambers of the Oliy Majlis, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov in his report covered a wide range of strategic issues, particularly important for our society and country. The priorities and directions were not made just as an appeal of the head of the state to parliament, but in fact are further consistent steps in ensuring realization of the main strategic goals of the state on the path of reformation and modernization of the country in all spheres of its life.
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan implements several projects directed at developing sphere of collecting of solid domestic waste.
According to the Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan, in order to improve system of solid waste collection, improve epidemiologic state in Tashkent, an investment project on modernization of infrastructure of waste processing started. The project is implemented due to loan of the Asian Development Bank.
Uzbekistan also works on attracting loan of the French Development Agency to improve system of sanitary cleaning historic and spiritual centers of Samarkand city. Currently, the sides are agreeing main technical parameters of the project.
Implementation of these projects will improve system of waste collection, its storage, processing, equipment of waste collecting enterprises with modern transport vehicles, etc.
Kegeyli District of Karakalpakstan has hosted a seminar on alternative energy sources and their effective use.
At the seminar, which was attended by heads of farms and businesses, noted the effectiveness of the work being done to promote the use of alternative energy sources.
The seminar participants were acquainted with the project for the production of molded coals that is being implemented in the district in partnership with the German Technical Cooperation Organization. Molded coals, made from straw, twigs and leaves of plants, are widely used for heating greenhouses and housing and are environmentally friendly and highly efficient.
“The equipment procured in Germany can produce 80 kg of molded coal per hour,” says the project coordinator Bahtjon Habibullayev. “The fuel is easy to use and can replace a natural gas in boilers.”
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The first session of Senate of oily Majlis of Uzbekistan will be held in Tashkent on 22 January 2015.
On 19 January, the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan adopted decision on convocation of the first session of the upper house of the parliament in Tashkent on 22 January 2015.
The election of members of Senate took place in Uzbekistan on 13-14 January 2015. During elections, 84 members of the Senate – six members from each regions of Uzbekistan, Tashkent city and Karakalpakstan – were elected.
It is worth to mention that President of Uzbekistan appoints another 16 members of the Senate with his decree.
On January 22, 2015, the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan held its first plenary session.
The meeting was opened by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission Mirza - Ulugbek Abdusalomov. Uzbek President Islam Karimov attended and spoke at the meeting.
Congratulating the members of the upper house with election and expressing his views on the priorities of the Senate on the prospects, the President nominated Nigmatilla Yuldoshev on the position of Chairman of the Senate, which was supported by the senators in a secret ballot.
According to Norma.uz, senators elected from among its members the Vice-President of the Senate, one of whom was Svetlana Artikova, and the second - a representative of the Republic of Karakalpakstan - Chairman of Jokargy Kenes Musa Erniyazov.
Then members of the upper house organized the committees of the Senate and chose their chairmen: for Budget and Economic Reforms (Chairman - F.Umarov) Legislation and Judicial and Legal Affairs (B.Matmuratov), Defence and Security (F.Dadahodzhaev), foreign policy (S.Safaev), science, Education, Culture and Sports (Z.Nizamhodzhaev), Agriculture, Water Management and Ecology (H.Chinibekov).
31 projects are subject for implementation to the results of the international conference ‘Development of cooperation in the Aral Sea basin to mitigate the consequences of environmental catastrophe’ that took place in Urgench on October 28-29, 2014, reports news agency Uzbekistan Today.
The implementation of projects is performed on the basis of agreements signed by Uzbekistan and international and foreign governmental financial institutions, as well as donor countries.
Total sum of national and regional projects makes $3 billion. In addition, preferential long-term loans in the amount of $ 1.9 billion and $ 200 million gratuitous grants are also to be attracted for the implementation.
Most of the objects within the projects are aimed at improvement of the ecological, social and economic situation in the Aral Sea basin.
Besides, development starts of the Complex program to mitigate the Aral catastrophe consequences, restoration and development of social and economic spheres in the region for 2015 – 2018.
A group of developers consists of specialists from the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments, and Trade, Ministry of Finance, executive committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, and many other interested ministries and agencies.
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From today the Tashkent Earthquake Simulation Complex at the Institute of Civil Defense has started working. The launch of this Complex is an essential step in the preparation for disaster, provision of safety and security to save lives.
Uzbekistan is located in the seismically-active Central Asian region, where the risk of earthquake disasters is high. Preparedness for extreme situations is a current issue for our country.
The launched Complex will serve as an effective and useful platform to build public awareness of Uzbekistan’s vulnerability to seismic events, and educate the public on the best means of preparing for and behaving during earthquakes. The Complex will work to develop and adopt strategies to increase awareness on the threat of natural disasters and improving their skills on how to save when disasters strike. Different activities and trainings offered by the complex will help to provide better preparedness of vulnerable communities, and to reduce possible damages and consequences.
The first plenary session of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan took place on January 12 and chaired by by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov.
The President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov made a speech at the meeting.
Through a secret ballot, deputies elected Nurdinjon Ismailov as a speaker of the lower house of parliament.
As deputies of a speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan were elected:
- Sodikzhon Turdiev - the head of the parliamentary faction UzLiDeP;
- Sarvar Otamurodov - the head of the Democratic Party "Milly Tiklanish";
- Hatamzhon Ketmonov – NDPUz faction leader;
- Narimon Umarov - the head of the Social Democratic Party faction "Adolat";
- Boriy Alikhanov - the head of the parliamentary group of the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan.
