The Uzbek government has adopted a resolution to mothball, for two years, incomplete facilities at the Tahiatash Thermal Power Station and the Novo-Angrenskaya Thermal Power Station that belong to the Uzbekenergo State Company.
The decision comes in an effort to ensure rational use of productive capacities and cut costs associated with the temporarily unused property of Uzbekenergo. The move will not entail a decrease in the production of electric energy. At this point it is not certain which facilities are subject to conservation.
In October last year, President Islam Karimov decreed top-priority measures to implement an investment project on the construction of two combined-cycle power plants with a capacity of 230 – 280 MW with the participation of the Asian Development Bank. The ADB approved a loan worth $300 million with a repayment period of 25 years, plus a grace period of 5 years.
On February 12, a regular meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held. The meeting was attended by representatives of ministries and departments, law enforcement agencies and courts, civil society institutions. After approving the agenda proposed by the Kengash (Council) of the Legislative Chamber, deputies heard the report on the activities of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights in 2014.
The report was made by the Commissioner Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) S.Rashidova.
It was noted that the main activities of the Ombudsman during the reporting period were promoting the improvement of national legislation on human rights, monitoring of its compliance, consideration of citizens’ appeals, raising legal consciousness and awareness of public and officials, international cooperation in the field of protecting human rights and freedoms.
The work was conducted in close cooperation with the committees of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, judicial and law enforcement authorities. The Ombudsman also took part in control and analytical activities of Parliament. Ensuring transparency and preventing violations in implementing the amnesty act took special place in the activities of the Ombudsman and its regional representatives.
As you know the state of the economic potential, the level of food security of any state and socio-economic situation in the society to a large extent depends on the level of development of agriculture.
Was the topic of the presentation, which took place in the Italian city of Parma - the administrative center of the region of Emilia-Romagna, in the territory of which there are many small and medium enterprises of mechanical engineering for agriculture, for the production of cheese and meat products. The event was organized by the People's Bank branch in the region of Emilia-Romagna and the Joint Chamber of Commerce "Italy-Uzbekistan" with the support of the Embassy of our country in Rome. The event was attended by over 50 representatives of the Italian business community.
Particular attention of gathered was drawn to information about the fact that currently in Uzbekistan annually produced about 16 million tons of fruits and vegetables, which is per capita of about 300 kilograms of vegetables, 75 pounds of potatoes and 44 kilos of grapes. This is about three times higher than the optimal consumption rates.
On February 5, was held a meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The meeting was chaired by the Speaker of the lower house of parliament N.Ismailov.
After approving the agenda proposed by the Kengash (Council) of the Legislative Chamber, deputies considered the issue of electing committees of the lower chamber of the Oliy Majlis. In accordance with the Constitution and the Constitutional Law “On the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan”, 11 committees of the chamber are formed for conducting legislative work, preliminary consideration and preparation of issues to be submitted to the Legislative Chamber, control over the execution of laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan and decisions taken by the chamber among deputies of the Legislative Chamber. All members of committees of the Legislative Chamber have equal rights. Deputy, not elected to the Committee shall be entitled to participate in its activities with an advisory vote.
Deputies considered the issue of establishing a permanent Commission on normative-legal terms. It consists of members of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, with experience and skills of professional legislative work.
In Baku within the framework of the project "Global Village - a festival of the world's peoples" held a presentation of tourist potential of Uzbekistan.
The festival was organized by student organization AIESEC Azerbaijan, which aim's to familiarize the participants and guests wih the culture and traditions of the peoples of the world to demonstrate the relevance of intercultural dialogue.
The event was attended by representatives of political, academic, cultural circles of Azerbaijan, the diplomatic corps, as well as lovers of folklore, history and fine arts, foreign tourists.
In total on forum was presented about 20 states. Guests were able to get acquainted with the traditions and culture of Vietnam, Greece, Egypt, Indonesia, Korea, Latvia, Maldives, Norway, Palestine, Poland, Romania, USA, Turkey, Montenegro, Sweden and other countries.
Each participant presented a separate stand, decorated in traditional style with symbols of the state, exhibits reflecting the culture and art of their peoples. In addition, viewers were able to enjoy the performances of folk dances, songs, plays.
Uzbek stand was decorated with national costumes, folk art, souvenirs. At the same time, visitors had the opportunity to see a variety of works of Uzbek artists.
In Tashkent State Technical University named after Abu Rayhan Beruni on the initiative of the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan conducted "round table" dedicated to ongoing projects for the protection of wetlands and the role of skilled professionals in the logical extension of this work, according to the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting it was noted that, in accordance with the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the Programme of Action for the Protection of the Environment of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2013-2017" dated May 27, 2013 extended the scope of ongoing activities in this direction.
In our country implemented measures for the protection of wetlands and their flora and fauna. Particular attention is paid to the participation of young qualified specialists in scaling up of implemented projects in the sphere.

On February 20, a regular meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held. After approving the agenda proposed by the Kengash (Council) of the Legislative Chamber, deputies considered a number of new draft laws in the first reading, aimed at further deepening reforms in different spheres of society.
On the eve, meetings of factions of political parties and the deputy group of the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan were held, where issues introduced in the agenda were tentatively considered. According to the results of a thorough discussion of the draft laws, proposals and recommendations aimed at their further improvement were developed.
Deputies began their work with a discussion of the draft law “On introducing amendments and addenda to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On joint-stock companies and protection of shareholders' rights”. In his report at the joint session of the Oliy Majlis, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, highlighting the importance of developing the corporate governance system, noted that shareholders and especially minority shareholders, as practice shows, do not fully use their rights, do not affect the activities of associations.
On February 2, 2015, was held an enlarged meeting of the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan and its deputy group in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. It was dedicated to the discussion of priorities of the Ecological Movement arising from reports of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the first session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on the results of socio-economic development in 2014 and the main priorities of economic program for 2015, as well as the joint session of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The meeting was opened by the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Central Kengash (Council) of the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan B.Alikhanov. He spoke about the priorities of the Ecological Movement and its deputy group in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis for 2015 and subsequent years.
